THE STORM WARRIORS

The Storm Warriors - Dec 10 Australia

Legendary heroes Wind & Cloud return in The Storm Warriors. Following Asian box office smash The Storm Riders, this highly anticipated sequel is set to be China's biggest CGI martial-arts movie ("Wuxia")to date. Written by the godfather of Hong Kong comics - Ma Wing-Shing - and directed by The Pang Brothers (The Eye, Re-Cycle, Bangkok Dangerous), The Storm Warriors will be simultaneously released in Australia and Asia on December 10, 2009.

The US$12 million budgeted The Storm Warriors, directed by Hong Kong-based twins Oxide and Danny Pang (the Pang Brothers) premieres in Australia on December 10, released on the same date and day as Asian cinemas.

The Pang Brothers – who built an international reputation as directors and editors thanks to the crossover success of horror and martial-arts action films (The Eye, Bangkok Dangerous, Infernal Affairs, Re-Cycle) – say they have tried to reinvent the "Wuxia" (fantasy kung fu film) genre with their spectacular CGI-laden production.

Zack Snyder's 300 (2007) set the bar for the realisation of comic-inspired cinema, and The Storm Warriors is set to bring the massively popular "Fung Wan" comic franchise to Australian audiences in similar style. Produced extensively across three custom-created bluescreen soundstages (60,000ft), with sets and scenes expertly rendered in CGI by FatFace Productions (Warlords, Re-Cycle), this highly anticipated sequel is screening to Australian fans on the same day & date as its Asian release - December 10.

The Storm Warriors is taken from the wildly successful comic series Fung Wan (Wind and Cloud), by Ma Wing-shing, the Godfather of Chinese comics. The Storm Riders (1998) starred Asian idols Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng, and raked in HK$42 million (RM18.5 million) from the local box office that year. It still ranks as Asian cinema's 12th all-time top earner.

Returning stars Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng are multi-award winning pop icons in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore & Malaysia. Aaron Kwok joins Jackie Chan as the only actor to ever win 2 Golden Horse awards ("The Oscars of Asian Cinema") for Best Actor.

CineAsia [http://www.cineasia.com.au] partners with Event Cinemas, Greater Union & Village Cinemas to bring the latest and greatest in Hong Kong and Chinese films to NSW, VIC & QLD on the same day and date they are released in Asia.
